Excuse the confusion. A "frame rate" and "key-frame rate" are two separate things. Export to quicktime at at "frame rate" of 30, then when you convert to FLV using the Flash Video Encoder, there will be an area to set the "key-frame rate", set that to 90. This may help but if your video is choppy exported as a quicktime then the choppiness must have something to do with your file, not with Flash.
A tweening class animated the FLV with code so that it plays at a specified speed, like 2.5 seconds. If you don't use that then the video may drop frames when being played on a slower machine.
There's probably something bigger going on with your file though.

Hi Balind, thanks for your reply I really appriciate any information and tips you can give me.

I did have a couple of questions about your reply and tips...

Okay instead of exporting straight from AE I export it as a quicktime mov file. But it still seems to be choppy and slow on playback.

Im a bit confused regarding the 90 frame rate...do I set the frame rate at 90 in AE and then export the mov. also at 90 because I tried this and it made the movie into a larger file...I believe because of more frames. Or do I keep the frame rate in AE at 30 and export to Quicktime mov file at 90. I tried this aswell but when I opened it in Quicktime and the clip just played the begining and end. Any clarification here can really help.

Im not really familiar with "tweener" although I have breifly played around with it a while back. Does this make a large difference on playing back an video effect like this? not to mention I had to make it larger now its about 1000x900 px and about 2.5 seconds long.

Thanks again for any comments or suggestions you may have, its really appreciated...keep up the great work.

Hey Johny, thanks for reading.

First of all, if you're having any issues with the FLV, don't export it from AE - instead export to Quicktime and convert using the Flash Video Encoder. It's an extra step but sometimes you get weird quality inconsistencies when exporting directly to FLV from AE.
Next, try using a keyframe rate of 90 instead of 'automatic' (which is usually 30) - depending on the type of animation you may get the same quality with a much lighter file.
Embed the FLV on the timeline and handle the playback with a tweening class like "tweener" or "tweenlight".
Also make sure you don't have the FLV animation starting at exactly the same time as you're shooting off a bundle of other commands. Stagger your animation so that when the FLV starts, it's one of the only lines of code that gets called during that milisecond.
You should be good. Let me know if you continue to have problems.

Hey Balind, hope your doing well. First I wanted to say that your work is amazing.

I looked over many of your posts regarding AE and flash and I have been trying to incorporate some AE in my flash work. Buttons and small animations work well when I export them from AE as flv's and import them into flash. But it seems that when I begin playing around with larger images and effects it seems to play choppy and slow when played back on certain computers. I have an effect that is about 700x600 and is 3 sec. long that is doing this very thing. I noticed that in a couple of your projects you have quite large video effect and they play very smoothly. I was wondering if you had any advice for larger AE/flv effect playback. Do you code these into your work to somehow get them to play without it getting choppy or slowing down? thanks for your time.

Im a very "pure" christian and I guess I have a few questions on my mind..
I've been thinking a lot about dating.. but im not sure where to go with that.
My coworkers have been telling me christian dating is the way to go.. so I've done a little research on <a href="http://www.breakingthelight.com/?christiandating=560" rel="nofollow">Christian Singles+Travel</a> and found some stuff on <a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=breakingthelight.com&btnG=Search" rel="nofollow">google</a>
Would be awesome to listen to your input.

Hey Balind. Yeah, I saw Lee's tutorial on this method and he linked to your blog, that's actually how I think I found it. It was a really good tutorial and I got so excited to create when I read / saw these tips for incorporating AE in Flash, but unfortunately I don't have AE.... yet! :) Thanks for sharing.
