iPhone is a revolution in mobile computing, ONLY if Jailbroken. A vanilla version of the iPhone experience sucks.

Visual Voicemail doesn't work in Canada yet, but I hear it's awesome. It should surface here this summer. Can't wait.

Lifesaving Advice
--------------------
Make sure you BACKUP any important data that you sync regularly. I had a freakshow chain of events which corrupted by Address Book, and I ended up losing my contacts on both my MacbookPro and the iPhone.

To add insult to injury, when I attempted to do a recover sync with my old Motorola Razr - I lost my Razr contacts as well!!! WTF Apple? Very, very messed up. This is definitely a worm in the apple. Hoping these issues have been resolved in the newly released 3G version...

Nice post, I definately agree it is a fine piece of mobile technology.

Here in Belgium we don't have iPhones available yet and I recently visited every (mac) store in New York to find out they were all sold out.

I always liked the idea of having one device in your pocket that takes care of everything and the iPod is definately on its way to do that.

I've had MMS working for a few months now on my iPhone in Australia. http://www.swirlyspace.com/iphone/apps/mms/

It's pretty basic, but it works.

My phone is unlocked though - not sure if you can install all the hundreds of useful, free apps with a locked one.

P.s. I'm jealous much about Visual voice-mail! Still waiting for an official iPhone down here :)

I agree on all accounts - especially the annoyance of not being able to send/receive images via text.

My favorite feature - by far - is using the Google map as a way of looking up business phone numbers. If you're out boozing and need a cab - go to the map and type in "Kansas City Cab" or where ever you're at. Then you get the nice list of cab companies, click on one and you can call them from the map. It's much faster than going through Safari. I use this all the time - especially for ordering take-out food.
