FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Where do you come from?

I am Balind William Sieber born January 29, 1976 in Toronto Canada, to Kim Elizabeth Smiley and Donald Alfred Sieber. I spent my formative and High School years in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I now reside in Santa Monica California, employed at Red Interactive Agency.

What’s your education?

I’m a graduate of the Sheridan Art Institute in Oakville, Ontario Canada. I studied Illustration, Graphic Design and 3d Animation.

How long have you been an interactive designer?

In 2000 I was hired out of school by Devlin Multimedia under the role of Sr. Designer. I spent several years in Toronto as a Contract Consultant, Freelancing for Advertising and Interactive agencies like F-i and Crispin Porter + Bogusky. From ‘05-’07, I was the Interactive Designer/Developer at Elastic People in Miami. I’ve been with Red as an Art Director since September ‘07.

What programs do you use?

My bread and butter are: Photoshop, Flash, After Effects and Maya.

What’s your motivation?

I work in a field that’s constantly evolving so my motivation is creating work that’s unique and can potentially contribute to the growth of the medium. I’ve geared my entire career around finding collaborative environments with great projects.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Television, movies, music videos, graphic design… everything around me.

Do you freelance?

Currently no. My career goals are aligned with the goals of my company and that’s how I like it.
